The University of Massachusetts began as the Massachusetts Agricultural College in 1863 and achieved university status in 1947. The University has campuses in Boston, Amherst, Lowell, Worcester and Dartmouth, and total enrollment numbers over 68,000. Funding for the University includes tax dollars from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and this public money enables the University to offer a quality education while keeping tuition at an affordable level.
UMass Online was established in 2001, and the program is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. There are over 45,800 students enrolled in UMass Online programs. Online degrees include Doctor of Nursing Practice, 30 Master’s degree programs in fields such as education, public policy and business administration and 23 Bachelor’s degree programs in disciplines that include criminal justice, psychology, business administration, hospitality and tourism management, and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Other programs include an Associate of Science in Information Technology, 54 certificates and Continuing Medical Education courses for doctors and other health care professionals.

The tuition and fees that students in the UMass Online program pay depend upon the type of courses they take and the campus with which they are associated. Undergraduate and non-credit courses cost from $125.00 to $1,980 per course and graduate courses have a range of $1,230 to $2,250. Financial aid for online students is the same as that for students enrolled in traditional university degree programs–university scholarships and state, federal and institutional grants, loans, tuition waivers and work opportunities.
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required for admission to online courses, and a bachelor’s degree is required for admission to any of the online graduate degree programs. IThe UMass Online MBA program has been ranked 22nd in the nation by “U.S. News.”
