Dr. Peter Sammartino and his wife Sally founded Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1942. The school was named for Colonel Fairleigh S. Started as a correspondence school, Capitol Technology University was formed on one of the oldest types of distance education. Founded in 1927, Capitol Technology University was originally known as the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute. Eugene H. John Boynton and Ichabod Washburn, tinware manufacture and owner of the world’s largest wire mill, opened the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. With a pen stroke, the Governor of the Colorado Territory, Edward M. McCook, established Colorado State University. To serve veterans returning from World War II, Thomas J. Watson, one of the founding members of IBM, founded Triple Cities College. #20. University of Idaho
Governor Edward Stevenson, in 1889, signed Council Bill No. 20 and the University of Idaho was established. Opening four years later, the school was located on a former uranium mine. The Free School opened in New London, Pennsylvania in 1743.
