#4. Cameron University
A year after being granted statehood, the state of Oklahoma got to work creating an infrastructure for educational. By 1908, six different agricultural schools were established through the state – one in each judicial district. One of these six schools was the Cameron State School of Agriculture. Doctor Lewis Fizhugh chartered Belhaven College in 1894 out of a small residence on Boyd Street in the town of Jackson, Mississippi. Thomas May Peirce opened the Peirce College as the Union Business College as the Civil War came to a close.
