#10. Colorado State University
The Governor of the Colorado Territory, Edward M. McCook, wrote Colorado State University into existence with the stroke of his pen. However, the school only existed on that paper for the next year. Captain Alden Partridge, the former superintendent of West Point Academy, founded Norwich University in 1819 in Norwich, Vermont. Upon signing Council Bill No. 20, the University of Idaho was established by Governor Edward Stevenson in 1889.
